MEET BRENDAN NEEDHAM

Fight Academy’s Brendan Needham gets his second pro-outing on Saturday October 14th, live on Fightzone.

The 27-year-old – who debuted in May with a four rounds points win in Rotherham – will step into one of the most famous rings in the UK when he fights at London’s famous York Hall, on the undercard of Inder Bassi’s Southern Area Welterweight Title defence against Saqib Khan.

On the card, the Sheffield fighter is slated to take on Poland’s Marcin Prostko, who will also be having his second pro fight after losing via TKO on his debut in July.

Ahead of the show, find out more about Brendan … including why he isn’t allowed to buy clothes for himself!

What age did you start boxing?

I’ve been boxing since I was 13, then went on to have a career in K1/kickboxing. Then returned to boxing at around the age of 23.

What success did you have as an amateur?

I didn’t have any amateur boxing bouts.

Favourite all-time fighter?

The one and only John “Fireball” Fewkes.

What are your strengths and weaknesses as a boxer?

My strengths are my toughness, heart and my body shots.  I don’t know about weaknesses.

What’s the hardest thing about being a pro fighter (so far)?

The lifestyle I think is the hardest thing about it.  It’s a constant battle, you’re never satisfied.

What weight do you see yourself winning belts at?

Cruiserweight, maybe light heavy one day.

Which current British fighters are impressing you the most?

Connor Benn really impresses me with his explosiveness and style of fighting.

Your favourite meal?

My wife’s gammon Sunday dinner!

Favourite film?

Step Brothers.

Which actor would you choose to play you in a movie about your life?

Charlie Hunnam.

Favourite city?

Sheffield.

Your job outside of boxing (if you have one)?

I am a machine operator.  I shovel loaders, 360 excavators, fork lift trucks, that sort of thing.

Your boxing ambitions? What do you want to achieve in the sport?

I would be daft not to say I want the best.  I want a European title, British and hopefully world titles.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

My dad. He’s my biggest inspiration and support. I love him to the end of the earth, he’s my best pal and I don’t know what I’d do without him if I’m honest.

Tell us an unusual fact about yourself?

I am colour blind. I’m not allowed to go clothes shopping on my own for that reason!

What is the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery?

Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

Hopefully in a big house in the middle of nowhere, enjoying life with my wife and kids.
